Figure Skate Blades
Higher level figure skating boots and figure skating blades are sold separately. The figure skating blade you select depends on the age, size, and skill level of the skater. An advenced figure skating blade has a larger toe pick and different curve than a beginner or intermediate blade. There are also differences in figure skate blades used for freestyle versus those used for dance.

Sharpening
It is very important that you have your figure skate blades sharpened by someone who specializes in figure skates. There are significant differences in the way you sharpen figure skate blades vs hockey skate blasdes. The figure skate blade has a varying curvature radius from front to back. If you bring your skates to a pro shop that uses undertrained sharpeners they may grind them to a single radius.
The best thing to do is talk to higher level skaters at your local rink to find out where they get their figure skates sharpened. Another thing you can check with the pro shop to see if they have seperate equipment to sharpen figure skates on. A good pro shop will have a seperate grinding wheel for figure skates.
